A Visit to Hot Water Beach
Before going out for dinner, the
last night in Hahei, we went to Hot Water Beach. If you go between the 2
hours before and after a low tide, there is a small area of the beach, on a
fault line, where steam rises and heats the water on the surface. You
take a shovel and dig yourself a hole to sit in and enjoy the hot water.
This was difficult as the sand keeps filling the hole in so I never sat down,
just waded in other peoples pools. The waitress at dinner said you need
to go with a group and everyone digs quickly and then you can get in the
hole. It is a mob of people in a small space. The spot where Lois
is stepping in is so hot you can't stand on it - you get off it very quickly
once you've felt it. We both agreed it was a "been there, done that
experience".
The following pictures attest to
the fact we were there.
