We have a bright red
Nissan so we won’t lose it in a parking lot!
Driving here is not a problem even if it is on the opposite side of the
road. The roads are excellent and the
signage is wonderful. The speed is usually
posted at 100 km outside of cities and towns but the traffic seldom moves at
that speed. It moves slower not faster
as it would at home.
Our first day in the
Bay of Islands area, we thought we would drive to Cape Reinga – it had been
recommended by someone at home. Our hostess,
at the B and B, discouraged us as it would take at least 5 hours each way. Instead she recommended we drive out to the
Tasman Sea where we would see similar scenery and it was only about 2 hours
each way. This proved to be an excellent
recommendation as we were also able to see the 2000 year old Kauri Trees and also
stop for a nice lunch at a seaside resort.
